One more clinical mockboard down, one more to go! I felt like I was more confused and nervous for this mockboard than I was for the first one last semester. I'm just glad it's over. My patient was a few minutes late and I started to panic wondering what I was going to do if I didn't have a patient. Finally the patient arrival indicator turned to yellow!
I got him checked in and got topical on the injection sites. I found an instructor to come watch while I gave the injections and then I contaminated the needle by touching the patent bib. Darn! I had two syringes set up but I didn't have another long needle so I had to get up and go get another one and then wait for another instructor. Note to self: have an extra needle at my station so I don't have to get up and get another one. He had so much calculus and I was having a hard time removing some of it. I was running out of time so I finished up as good as I could and then took him to the front desk.
When the student examiner brought him back to me I had missed four areas. More than I wanted to miss but I was surprised that it wasn't more. I had missed all the distals on the lower right side. Alexader came over to help me and she asked me how I was sitting and instrumenting those areas. I showed her and guess what...I had been sitting in the wrong position the whole time! No wonder I couldn't get those areas clean. I need to remember that for scaling the distal buccals of the lower right you can sit at the eleven o'clock position.
I am grateful for the mockboard experiences and how great our instructors are. I wouldn't want to go into the clinical board not having the experience of how the whole process works. Good luck Thursday girls!!!
I feel the same way about these mockboards, a little more confused and now at the last minute (2:00 in the morning of) I can't sleep because I am afraid that I am going to forget something and it will be an awful experience. But I have looked over Karlie's schedule and I am feeling a little better, but only a little. Now if I could just fall asleep!
